The main reason behind my unplanned journey from Cochin to Ottpalam at this recession(My pocket) was to see Chinakkathoor pooram. Chinakkathoor Pooram is very famous in malabar and is held at Chinakkathoor Kavu Palappuram which is 2 kms away from my home. Since my birth I ‘ve never missed the event. The highligthts of the event are Kuthira(horse)pooram (where people carry models of horses made of bamboo and dry leaves), tuskers, Panjavadhyam, other forms of art like theyyam , tholpavakoothu. and fireworks.
Tomorrow is the proposed day for Chinakkathoor Pooram 2010. I sat at home watching some TV programmes untill it was 4 pm. Then took a quick shower and went to Lakkidi Koottupatha(my nearest Junction) to see the Kuthirakku Thalavakkal(fixing the head on horsse) ceromony. Though i expected many of my friends no one was there. Got really bored. Fortunately Vineeth(my school time friend) came and picked me up.
We went to Chinakkathoor Kavu. The Kavu ground was packed with Chicks wearing kerala ethnic wears. Many gals were there whom I know personally. The chick count will be very low on the pooram day as too many people from different areas drop in to watch the festivals and it is not safe for gals to roam around. Came home by 9:30 PM. Mahesh, one of my childhood friend came home and said Ganamela is going on in connection with the pooram. Had a quick supper and went for Ganamela(live music program) with Mahesh, Vimal and Nirmal. The ganamela troup was a local one and I dint like it. Still stood and saw the complete show. Just came back from there. I was planning to scribble the complete myth behind the Chinakkathoor pooram. I am feeling very tired. Lemme doze off.

I’m a good fan of poorams and especially being from the land of poorams (trichur) i cant miss reading about it…

The ground was heavily crowded inspite of the hot sun…
Panjavadhyam by thekkumangalam desam(Ours) was superb
The highlights from ottapalam side desams were shingari melam(chendamelam remix), Vandiveshangal(models of different hindu myths) Pandimelam etc
One more thing….. reading your pooram blog gives me nostalgic goosebumps…
